Hollywood’s Cultural Diversity: These Celebrity Ethnicities Will Definitely Surprise You

Liv and Steven Tyler – African American

The father-and-daughter duo has been in the business since time immemorial, so they surely have no problem paying their mortgage. Steven is the front man of the iconic rock band, Aerosmith. Liv, on the other hand, is an actress and has been known for her stint in The Lord of the Rings trilogy. When the two joined TLC’s genealogy series, Who Do You Think You Are?, they learned that they have African American roots, and their ancestor is Robert Elliot. The legendary musician might have passed his musical genes down to Steven. He was a drummer boy during the War of 1812, while his son, George Elliot, was also a drummer during the Civil War. Interestingly, Steven started his music career as a drummer.

Larry David – Native American

After having a DNA test on the show, Lopez Tonight, comedian Larry David learned he did not only descended from his European-Jewish ancestors as he once thought. The co-creator of Seinfeld and the main brain behind Curb Your Enthusiasm discovered he is 37 percent Native American as well. This discovery could help David find his ethnicity, from searching his ancient relatives to the kind of lives they had.
Although the 72-year-old star treated the result as a joke, his instincts were correct. The show was able to distinguish if David is Asian of Native America, as the latter originated from the former. Since Native Americans are assigned to many of Iberian, Italian or Ashkenazi heritage, David is Ashkenazi. Whatever his descent, this new discovery will still not affect David’s fantastic credit report.

Oprah Winfrey – Native American and East Asian

Oprah Winfrey also took a DNA test as part of the documentary series, African American Lives. It aimed to trace her ancestors back to the Kpelle people, who live in the West African highlands, which are now part of Liberia and Guinea. They found out that the television mogul is 8 percent Native American and 3 percent East Asian.

“When it happened to me, it was absolutely empowering to know the journey of my entire family,” she said.

A lot of African Americans are unable to trace back their roots after being cut off from their heritage because of slavery. To some degree, the DNA test helps them find their ancestors.

Snoop Dogg – Sub-Saharan African, Native American, European

Snoop Dogg used to believe he only descended from ancestors from Sub-Saharan African. However, after a DNA test, the 47-year-old rapper learned he has mixed ethnicities. He is 71 percent Sub-Saharan African, 23 percent Native American, and 6 percent European.

Mixed ancestry is a common thing for people from a country of immigrants, like the United States. Thus, it is not surprising that Snoop Dogg came from different descents. With his fame, he can even help his kind.

With everything he does, the rapper can already try investment planning on either of these places right away.

Bill Paxton – American

Just like Liv and Steven Tyler, Bill Paxton also joined TLC’s Who Do You Think You Are? in 2015. Here, he learned his real ethnicity as well. The late actor’s fourth great grandfather named Benjamin Sharp used to be a teenage spy for the American colonies in the Revolutionary War. Unfortunately, he died due to surgery complications in 2017. His insurance must have helped his family go on with their lives.

Paxton was not the only one who had a descent from the war, though. There were a lot of Americans who have ancestors dating to that era. Aside from DNA tests, you could also learn your ancestry through historical documents that could be accessed online.

Angie Harmon – German, Irish & Greek

Angie Harmon also learned about her ancestry on Who Do You Think You Are? If Paxton’s ancestor was a slaveholder, Harmon’s fifth great grandfather had been bought and sold himself. He arrived in America as an indentured servant. After that, he also took part in the American Revolution as a soldier in George Washington’s regiment at Valley Forge.

“This gives me new light into the rest of my life and how I’m going to live it,” Harmon said. Now that the 47-year-old star knows her real ethnicity, she may opt to purchase properties in these places and acquire home insurance to secure them.

Colin Farrell – Irish

Only a few actors are proud of their country, and that includes the Ireland-born Colin Farrell. The 43-year-old star is pleased with his ethnicity and even said being an Irish is a big part of who he is.

“I take it everywhere with me,” he said. Although Farrell now lives in Los Angeles, he still feels very much connected to his homeland. The War Zone actor continued to say that the depth of everyone’s cultural complexities such as music, literature, community, and pain have been with him despite being away from his home country for a number of years. Farrell may have proper money management with a positive attitude like this.

Saoirse Ronan – Irish

Just like Farrell, Saorise Ronan is proud of her Irish blood, too. The Best Actress nominee even celebrated her heritage at the 2016 Oscars by wearing a sequined emerald green gown from the Calvin Klein Collection.

When she got nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the movie Atonement in 2008, she also donned a green gown to express her pride of being an Irish. Ronan said all of her families are from Dublin which explains her accent. However, she doesn’t know where she is actually from. What she just knows is that she is an Irish.

Ronan may opt to learn more about her ancestry from online classes.

Jonathan Rhys Meyers – Irish

For Jonathan Rhys Meyers, being an Irish is special. The 42-year-old star said these words when he accepted the Irish Post Legend Award in 2014.
Meyers has been known for his excellent portrayal of Henry VIII’s role on the Showtime series, The Tudors. Talking about his rural upbringing in Cork, Ireland, he said there was something about the Irish country people and its land that made him proud of his ethnicity.
However, when he joined Hollywood, he was forced to leave his home country, though he’s still very proud of where he came from. Everyone should give Meyers all the credit for always looking back to his past.

Megan Fox – English, Scottish, German, French, Scots-Irish (Northern Irish), and Powhatan Native American

Megan Fox has different ethnicities. She is of English, Scottish, German, French, Scots-Irish (Northern Irish), and Powhatan Native American descents.
The 32-year-old star is from Oak Ridge, Tennessee, United States of America. She ranks No. 10 on The Most Beautiful Women of 2019, No. 60 on Famous Women You’d Want to Have a Beer With, No. 2 on The Hottest Celebrities of Our Time, and No. 43 on Celebrities Who Get a Way Worse Rep that they Deserve.
She started in the business in 2001 with a few minor movie and television roles. Her film debut was the teen comedy movie Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen. Although she is not often seen in the spotlight today, she is still undoubtedly far from bankruptcy.
